1991 Wrangler gets MTRS and Spider Custom Rockers

It’s time to update my 1991 Jeep Wrangler to make it more rock crawler friendly. The jeep came very well built, and only needs minor changes. I will add body armor and smaller tires to prevent the axles from breaking as much.

The jeep came with diamond plate rockers that were more for looks and not for protecting the body. With plans on doing some heavy duty rock crawling I decided it would be a smart investment to upgrade the rockers. After doing a lot of research I decide on Spider Customs Rocker Guards. An advantage that I found with these rockers is that they connect with the body mount under the jeep giving you more protection from rocks hitting the body.

The tires that came on the jeep where 39.5 Super Swamper TSL’s, a little to big for the Dana 44 front axle in my opinion. I was afraid that with my heavy foot I would break the front axles. I changed the tires to 37×12.5R15 Goodyear MTR’s. These smaller lighter tires would make it harder for me to break the axle and still provided enough clearance.

Time past and I wheeled the crap out of the rig with this set up. I broke the front axle from time to time. The rockers worked great and I still have them on my rig today.
