Scott’s 1st Jeep – CJ5

Scott's 4x4 By: Add comments

After going off-roading with a friend I was excited about off-roading and wanted to get into it myself. I started my hunt for a Jeep, and found a friend who’s father was selling a Jeep CJ5 he had put together. He had built many Jeeps before and this one was built from the ground up with misc. older Jeep CJ5 parts and Mail Jeep Parts.

At the time only a couple of my friends had jeeps and they were not into it ‘hardcore’ so they didn’t know the ins and outs of jeeps and what was best for off-roading. Since I was just starting out I new I didn’t want to spend a lot of money or get something totally ‘hardcore’. (Over the next few years my definition of hardcore would change dramatically.)

That is a picture of my Jeep CJ5 driving around Folsom Lake. Now that it’s years later I can say that the CJ5 is narrow, short and very unstable even compared to a stock Jeep Wrangler YJ and Jeep Wrangler TJ. Though it’s not the best choice for a wheeler it was great fun and got me really into 4-wheeling.
